Eye to Eye by Scott Thomas Outlar

Eye to Eye I have searched for Truth and found it lacking in this wicked world full of falsehoods as liars lead their brethren toward the edge of despair. I have searched for Peace amongst the many tribes across all lands where nature remains pure even as manufactured wars are brought to a crescendo of madness and chaotic turbulence. I have searched for Empathy with empty palms while sand drains through the clenched fists of would-be conquerors who use faked compassion as a means to distort consciousness. I have searched for Love and finally learned the lesson that such an emotion must first be discovered within one’s own soul before it can ever be realized in the eyes of another who values their self on the same level. Bio: Scott Thomas Outlar hosts the site  17Numa.wordpress.com  where links to his published poetry, fiction, essays, interviews, and books can be found. His work was nominated for three ...

As The Wind Howls by Ken Allan Dronsfield

As the Wind Howls Flames reflected within the cat's eye a glass of spirits await a parched soul wool socks warming my chilled feet the hound listens as the wind howls. Teapot whistles in a shrieking pitch inside a little cabin on a snowy night as loneliness wreaks of rumination a harsh stare from the sleeping cat. Ink flows smooth on nights like this; imagination tickles a swirling mind image of acute emotional darkness seeking the shadowed voice inside. whilst the cat naps with one eye open the mouse creeps on the window sill the snow shovel falls with a clamor everyone jumps as the wind howls. Biography: Ken Allan Dronsfield is a published poet who has recently been nominated for The Best of the Net and 2 Pushcart Awards for Poetry in 2016. His poetry has been published world-wide in various publications throughout North America, Europe, Asia, Australia and Africa. Ken  loves thunderstorms, walking in the woods at night,...

Billy Has Mind Tics by Neil Ellman

Image
(after the painting by George Condo) Billy Has Mind Tics (after the painting by George Condo) Billy has mind tics the kind that makes his eyes go pop when he sees a painting by Miró or considers his own mortality and the ever-expanding universe. The kind that makes him fix his tie even when he isn’t wearing one or his brain goes blank when he tries to remember his name or the shape of his soul.                                    The kind that makes him shout obscenities at the moon    for doing little more than laughing at his silly jokes and glowing when there is no need.    Poor Billy can’t sit still. He lives on Adderal and Ritalin. He doesn’t drink coffee anymore but his hands still tremble when he hears a spider in the dark. ...
