For Aunt Ruby by Jane's Ayers Sweat

For Aunt Ruby

The doctor says Death waits
Outside your hospital door
Waiting to take away
The aunt I will always adore.

My mind reruns the memories
Of your laughter and your smiles
Oh to have seen them more often
But there were just too many miles.

Death has come now
Sneaking in while it's dark
You may be gone now
But you surely left your mark.

You were blessed to have 99 years
As your family was blessed to have you
Await me in the cotton fields
I will join you when my life is through.
